Ballets Russes Arts Initiative fosters international creative exchange in the visual and performing arts and film, with a special focus on Eastern Europe and the post-Soviet States. Inspired by the example of Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes, BRAI carries out collaborative, creative, and educational programming in those forms of art that were influenced by the original Ballets Russes.
Born in 2007 as the Ballets Russes 2009 Festival and established as an independent organization in 2009, BRAI builds institutional partnerships with museums, performing companies, universities, and individual art-makers. Based in Boston, it carries out diverse programming (concerts, film screenings, art exhibitions, performances, lectures, panel discussions and more) across Massachusetts as well as elsewhere in New England and the East Coast (most notably the Washington DC area and New York), and internationally.
