Joyce Chopra will present and discuss her celebrated film Smooth Talk as well as her newly published memoir about when she was one of the few female directors in the industry.

Transforming the spare Joyce Carol Oates short story “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?” into a rich coming of age drama with a dark center, Chopra collaborated with her screenwriting husband Tom Cole to tenderly craft and perfectly cast her feature debut. Although parking in Cambridge is difficult (most of the surrounding streets have restricted parking for Cambridge residents only), metered parking on Broadway and Harvard Streets, as well as the rest of Harvard Square, is free after 8pm.
