LIve music and Japanese benshi Kataoka Ichiro accompany this silent film by Ozu, the first about the misadventures of Kihachi.

Passing Fancy is the first of Ozu’s films about the misadventures of Kihachi, and his second film to win the Kinema Junpo first prize. Sakamoto Takeshi’s Kihachi is extremely careless and given to temper tantrums, though occasionally he beams with the goofy glow of Chaplin’s tramp. Although parking in Cambridge is difficult (most of the surrounding streets have restricted parking for Cambridge residents only), metered parking on Broadway and Harvard Streets, as well as the rest of Harvard Square, is free after 8pm.
