What's Cooking?: Food as Extended Metaphor

Whether it’s sizzling garlic, floral orange blossom, or fragrant limes, food plays on all the senses and provides instant access to the reader’s innermost feelings. This class will explore how we can use food–from soil to stomach–as a means of connecting across cultures and captivating the reader. Here we will discuss the works of Li Young Lee and Faylita Hicks and explore how we can extend the use of food beyond basic description, into a metaphor that enriches our writing. For writers age 13 – 18 ONLY.
