Music at Eden’s Edge (www.edensedge.org), is the North Shore’s own regional resident chamber music ensemble. Now in its thirty-ninth consecutive year, MEE proudly presents 2020 Vision: Pairings and Sides Lecture/Performance Series, listener friendly concerts which offer an insider’s view on music selected by the performers. Live performances in an intimate space are introduced by the players, offering historic, stylistic and personal insights, all done with a liberal dose of humor and some vigorous dialog. It is a great opportunity to hear rarely-performed classical selections and to learn at the same time. MEE has found our listeners hungry for this experience, and we have enjoyed every year of presenting these unique series.
A Toast to Vienna, Hungary and Ireland is the third program in the Music at Eden’s Edge 2020 Vision Series of free lecture/performances. In a series sub-titled “Pairings and Sides,” here is a puzzle: which pieces are the pairing and which one is the side? In an internationally flavored string trio program, MEE offers the listener the chance to experience an unusual combination which really works. A charming Intermezzo by Kodály and the rarely heard first movement of Moeran’s String Trio, filled respectively with Eastern European and Irish folk melodies, make a fascinating pairing. This becomes the perfect foil for Beethoven’s Trio in G Major, Op. 9 No. 1.
Cellist Sarah Freiberg, guest violist Dimitar Petkov, and violinist Maria Benotti join forces to bring this program to life. In MEE’s characteristic programming style, eclecticism provides a new viewpoint and a new hearing for a mix of the familiar and the unknown. Melodic charm and heroic stature pair side by side to offer an unusual and enjoyable musical mix.
