Tiburtina Ensemble

Founded in 2008 in Prague, the women of Tiburtina Ensemble have won acclaim for their exquisite performances of Medieval repertoire. They make their BEMF début in a program of magnificent music by Hildegard of Bingen. Enormously influential as a musician, a theologian, and a healer, over the centuries her life has sometimes taken on a mythic form, but she was first a human being. This program explores a selection of plainchant from the massive Riesencodex, an exhaustive collection of her spiritual and musical output. The music is exceptionally ornate and masterfully constructed, a testament to her undeniable virtuosity that made her such a legendary figure in her own lifetime.
