The Makanda Project at First Church in Roxbury

The Makanda Project resumes its popular series of free summer concerts on the lawn of First Church in Roxbury. There will be two sets, with a poetry reading by Askia Toure at intermission. The program will feature compositions by Makanda Ken McIntyre as well as Chico Freeman. The personnel: Kurtis Rivers – alto saxophone; Paavo Carey – alto saxophone, flute, clarinet; Seth Meicht – tenor saxophone; Charlie Kohlhase – baritone saxophone; Jerry Sabatini, Haneef Nelson – trumpet; Alfred Patterson, Sarah Politz – trombone; Bill Lowe – bass trombone; John Kordalewski – piano; Avery Sharpe – bass; Yoron Israel – drums.
