"The lonesome touch" is a common moniker for the East Clare Irish music tradition, which is considered the oldest surviving regional folk music style in Ireland. Characterized by slower tempi, prevalence of minor keys and modes, and sparse ornamentation, this music has been passed down aurally for hundreds of years.
