Spaces of Refuge and Resilience: The Luminous Art of Diane Esmond Exhibit

An extensive retrospective and benefit art sale of work by the French artist Diane Esmond will be held in conjunction with Community Church of Boston’s continued celebration of their 100th anniversary will open on October 14 at 7 pm with music by Josh Rosen and Stan Strickland, followed on October 15 from 3-6 pm with talks by the artist’s son Victor Wallis and by the Vienna art historian Patricia A. Helletzgruber. On October 16 an open house with refreshments will start at 2:30 pm.

Diane Esmond (1910-1981) was a French artist whose work evolved from the impressionist and post-impressionist traditions toward more abstract expression, inspired especially by tropical forest scenes. Her work from the 1930s was exhibited at the time in Paris but was seized by Nazi occupying forces in 1941. She escaped with her family to New York, returning to France in the mid-1950s.
