ODE to ODESA: Vadim Neselovskyi and Friends

In 2022, Vadim Neselovskyi paid tribute to his hometown of Odesa, Ukraine with a ruminative and poetic solo piano album featuring compositions inspired by Ukrainian landmarks like the Odesa Railway Station, Potemkin Stairs, and Odesa Conservatory. The NY Times classical critic Seth Colter Walls featured ODESA in “5 CLASSICAL ALBUMS YOU CAN LISTEN TO RIGHT NOW”. ODESA has received coverage in the NY Times, NPR’s Morning Edition, WNYC’s All of It with Alison Stewart, The PBS Newshour, The Boston Globe and other outlets throughout the US, UK and Europe.

This concert will be the second time Neselovskyi, who teaches at Berklee College of Music, has performed the music from the album in the Boston area in its entirety.

The program also features 6 movements from a composition in progress, Ukrainian Diary (supported by a Live Arts Boston grant). For this Vadim is joined by an international trio featuring Turkish violinist Bengisu Gokce, American violist Sophia Nikas and Brazilian cellist Thiago Wolf. Performer bios at odesa.eventbrite.com

The LA Times has praised Neselovskyi’s “extraordinary playing” while The Guardian (UK) has called him “the most promising of the young improvisers.” All About Jazz recognized his singular versatility, referring to him as “a strong pianist [as well as] a composer who blends form and freedom in new ways.”
