BOSTON, Ma. (Jan. 26, 2023) – Across Boston, a group of women came together to serve as the voice for the voiceless and leverage their platforms to create space for an important conversation. Mics for the Missing is a new social movement created by local influencers and creatives Mary-Alexandra Molina, Ola Akinwumi of Afrodesiacity, Lindsey Briggs of Social U Digital, and Mayowa “Mo'' Osinubi of Social Glue Media. Together, their goal is to draw attention to the hundreds of thousands of BIPOC women and girls that go missing throughout the U.S. each year.On February 3, National Missing Persons Day, Mics for the Missing is hosting its first-ever event within District Hall at 75 Northern Ave in Boston from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm. The community is invited to an evening of conversations and connections to honor those who remain lost. Half of the event proceeds will benefit the Black and Missing Foundation (BAMFI), a nonprofit that brings awareness to missing persons of color; also well-known for its four-part HBO documentary series from 2021 about the cause. Osinubi stated, “Every year, we see an increase of BIPOC women and girls go missing, and throughout it all, their cases receive disparate treatment from law enforcement and media alike. We cannot stand by while BIPOC women and girls go missing in radio silence. Mics for the Missing is one unified voice designed to urge media, law enforcement, and other key stakeholders to share this message and help us take action today.
