MetWinds Band Concert: "It Only Takes A Moment"

Lexington, MA — The Metropolitan Wind Symphony/MetWinds will continue their 49th season with a Winter Band Concert on Sunday, March 1, 2020 at 3:00 pm, at the Scottish Rite Masonic Museum, 33 Marrett Road, Lexington, MA. Guest conductor Matthew Westgate will conduct the program.  Featured are Festive Overture, Op. 96 by Dmitri Shostakovich/trans. Reynolds, Dusk by Steven Bryant, The Sounding of the Call by Joseph Turrin, with Eric Berlin, trumpet soloist, Letter from Home by Aaron Copland/arr. Belski, The Lads of Wamphray by Percy Grainger, and Give Us This Day by David Maslanka. Mr. Westgate will deliver a pre-concert lecture at 2:30 pm.

Matthew Westgate is currently the Director of Wind Studies at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where he conducts the UMass Wind Ensemble and UMass Symphony Band, teaches conducting, mentors graduate students, and coordinates the wind, brass, and percussion program.

Eric Berlin is an active trumpet soloist and pedagogue. He is Principal Trumpet of the Albany Symphony Orchestra, and has been a featured soloist with many ensembles including the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, the Hartford, Albany, and Brooklyn Symphony Orchestras, the Helsinki University Orchestra, the U.S. Coast Guard Band, and the wind ensembles of the University of Massachusetts and the University of Denver. He has commissioned, premiered, and recorded new works for trumpet from composers including Robert Bradshaw, Eric Ewazen, and James Stephenson. Berlin also maintains a studio as Artist-Teacher of Trumpet at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Tickets are $18 for adults, $14 for seniors, $6 for students, and are free for children under 5.   They are available at the door or can be reserved by telephone. Founded by Jerry Gardner in 1971, the MetWinds, a concert band, is currently celebrating its 49th anniversary. The MetWinds comprises over 70 talented woodwind, brass, and percussion instrumentalists who audition for membership and seating. It makes a significant contribution to the cultural life of the Greater Boston community by providing its audiences with high quality concerts and its members with opportunities for musical growth.
