Meet Miguel Rosales, Bridge Architect and Designer

The Zakim Bridge has become one of the Boston skyline’s most iconic design elements, now meet the man behind the design — Boston’s own Miguel Rosales, with over 30 years of experience as a leading bridge architect and designer for major infrastructure projects in the U.S. and abroad. Rosales also recently completed the restoration of the historic Longfellow Bridge, with its stunning blue lighting.  He will be interviewed by Peter Vanderwarker, nationally known for his architectural photography, and whose photos are in museum collections.

Miguel Rosales is the president and principal designer of Rosales + Partners with over 30 years of experience as a leading bridge architect and designer for major infrastructure projects in the U.S. and abroad. His recently completed projects include the restoration of the historic Longfellow Bridge, Boston, MA, and the Frances Appleton Pedestrian Bridge in Boston, MA. Mr Rosales is recognized internationally as an expert on bridge aesthetics and design. He received a Diploma in Architecture from the Universidad Francisco Marroquin in Guatemala City in 1985. In 1987, he completed a Master of Science in Architectural Studies at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Mr. Rosales has received grants from the NEA, AIA/AAF, and MIT to research bridge and infrastructure design and is the recipient of several bridge design awards.

Peter Vanderwarker is a freelance photographer and author whose work interprets both the natural and man made environments. Peter has a degree in Architecture from UC Berkeley and was a Loeb Fellow at Harvard University in 1996 and 1997, and has received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Graham Foundation for his work. His prints are in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Addison Gallery of American Art.
