Margaret Swann: Lift; Larry Pollans: Forest, Boston Sculptors Gallery

Margaret Swan’s show features a new body of work exploring forces of nature in relation to structures that harness their power. Inspired by the rigging of sailing vessels. Swan’s large wall-mounted and freestanding sculptures position the taut interplay of linear elements in contrast to curving planes in space, suggesting the presence of wind animating the work.

Larry Pollans narrative sculptures and drawings in this show materialize from uncertainty. Flowers, stalks, trunks, birds, figures appear and disappear and reform from step to step. The drawings are pastel on paper and acrylic on copper. The sculptures are fired terra cotta. The sculptures are polychromed with acrylics and colored waxes.
