Laura Evan's "Hold in/Pour Forth"; Michelle Lougee's "Once"

Evans work continues to explore exterior surfaces that can belie interior realities. Evoking ancient and contemporary vessels, these mysterious forms have no discernable function. They occupy space while holding space. While Evans’ work is not anecdotal, current events do inform her studio practice, hence artwork titles such as: Thirst, Steamed Up, Holding On, Slump and Roar.

Single use plastic is transformed into meticulously crafted otherworldly sculpture in Michelle Lougee’s installation ONCE.  Her work is at once macro and micro. It beckons one to consider the scale of plastic waste while forcing contemplation of microscopic creatures struggling to survive. The artist’s careful modifications to the debris provide a thought provoking counterpoint to the visual impact of consumerism made manifest.
