The Kirill Poudavoff Quartet will perform, loved by many, tunes from The American Songbook in a swinging-hard, take-no-prisoners way.
At 24, Kirill Poudavoff, a respected tenor saxophonist, draws inspiration from Dexter Gordon and Aubra Graves, mesmerizing audiences with his rich tonal color, singable improvisations, and ballad mastery. “Channeling Dexter amazingly…But with his own voice. Nobody plays like that anymore.”
Introduced to music by his father Alexander around 2005, Kirill switched over to the tenor saxophone at 10. One of his early collaborations, “Fly Me to the Moon” with his father, gained significant traction on YouTube, with over 2.5 million views.
Kirill’s performances at Boston’s Wally’s Jazz Cafe, many recorded live, have established him as a skilled musician. In 2023, under the guidance of saxophonist Antoine Roney, Kirill had the honor of performing for Maxine Gordon, wife of the legendary Dexter Gordon and a distinguished jazz historian. Accompanied by a rhythm section of Berklee’s finest, they commemorated Dexter’s centennial birthday at Wally’s, with the live recording standing as a testament to Kirill’s artistry and growth.
The Mad Monkfish is happy to now offer live jazz concerts on select Sunday afternoons! For those who can’t make it to the Jazz Baroness Room, Monkfish now streams live most of its performances on their Facebook page.
