Hosted in partnership with The Dance Complex, A Trike Called Funk’s “Juxtaposed Flows” is a mini-series of events designed to bring together members of the local street / club dance scene with those from the internationally rooted heritage dance scene to learn from & exchange with one another in a fun & interactive format. Each event will feature a different combination of instructors specializing in local and international dance forms as well as DJs specializing in the corresponding music genres.
The April edition will feature the following Boston-based guest artists specializing in West African and Krump dance traditions whose roots span Mali to Cali:
Joh Camara, an accomplished artist & educator who has also led some of the most famous & competitive troupes in the world of West African dance and drumming.
Russell “Gutta” Ferguson, a multi-talented dancer, martial artist, visual artist, and the winner of the sixth season of So You Think You Can Dance.
Accompanied by live drumming and A Trike Called Funk’s resident DJ, participants will learn basic steps from West African and Krump dance forms then have a chance to incorporate them into a friendly, freestyle dance battle whose winner will take home all proceeds from ticket sales. The more who come, the more fun & the more funds to be won!
