The first of three recitals exploring Homeland and its role in Beethoven’s life by the Horszowski Trio in their residence at the Longy School of Music.
Op. 1 sounds like the very beginning, but Beethoven had written much before these pieces—they were, instead, his Viennese and publishing debut. Beethoven moved from his hometown in Bonn to Vienna and found a new mentor in Haydn and a patron in Prince Karl Lichnowsky—to whom these trios are dedicated. Paired with his first opus is a work by prominent Japanese composer Akira Nishimura; an homage to Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata written for Horszowski Trio pianist, Rieko Aizawa.
