Ensemble 44 “The Orpheus Story in Early Baroque Music: Love Lost, Love Regained”

The descent of Orpheus into the underworld, and his return.

The program includes excerpts from Monteverdi’s opera L’Orfeo and Peri’s opera Euridice, as well as sonatas by Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre and Isabella Leonarda, madrigals by Morley and Dowland, recercadas by Ortiz, trios by Michael East, and more!  Ensemble 44 comprises Kathleen McDougald-Lee (harpsichord and director), Caitlin Laird (soprano), Bruce Larkin (baritone and recorders), Carol Lewis (viola da gamba), Nouri Newman (recorders), and Ishmael Stefanov-Wagner (violin and tenor).
