EMMANUEL MUSIC: Britten Chamber Festival (POSTPONED)

Emmanuel Music continues its celebration of England’s foremost composer of the 20th century, with the second year of the Britten Chamber Festival evening concert series. Included in this program is Britten’s five Canticles, Phantasy Quartet, Three Divertimenti for String Quartet and the Songs from the Chinese. “The festival works use some very interesting instrumentation, a variety we don’t always see at Emmanuel,” says Turner. “Britten was always writing with specific voices and personalities in his mind and certain sounds in his ear.”  Through the varied instrumentation and vocal parts, Britten used selections of his work to acknowledge the important figures in his life, such as his partner and muse, Peter Pears, and close friend, guitarist Julian Bream.
