Elie Wiesel Memorial Lecture with Shari Lowin

This November, we present the final two lectures in our Fall 2020 Elie Wiesel Memorial Lecture Series on the theme Finding Moses.

On Wednesday, October 14 we welcomed  Dr. Avivah Gottlieb Zornberg, who provided a deep and nuanced literary and psychological analysis of “The Sense of an Ending: Finding Moses in Midrashic Literature.”  Her lecture is available to view now on our YouTube channel.

Moses in the Qur’an and the early Muslim Isra’iliyyat with Shari Lowin

Dr. Lowin (Stonehill College) investigates the character of Moses as presented in the Qur’an and early Muslim sources, paying close attention to the role his mothers play in his life.

Monday, November 16 | 7:30–9 pm

Moses in the African American Tradition with Herbert Marbury

Dr. Marbury (Vanderbilt University) will discuss ways in which African Americans deploy Moses traditions as a counter-narrative over successive eras of repression.
