Court-Martial at Fort Devens by Jeffrey Sweet

In WWII, women were heavily recruited to serve in the Armed Forces, including black women. This play is based on the true events of recruits who were trained as medical technicians, but then given a demeaning order by a racist colonel to report to housekeeping to mop floors and clean toilets, work he felt was better suited to their race. The black women soldiers went on strike, but were threatened with court-martial if they did not obey orders. This is the inspiring story of the courageous women who decided to fight back for what they knew was right. A Massachusetts premiere of this little known slice of black, women’s and military history which occurred in our on backyard, at Fort Devens, MA.
