Color Play, Feb 3-28, The Loading Dock Gallery

As we enter a new year, artists Tarja Cockell and Brooke Lambert celebrate with Color Play, a new show at the Loading Dock Gallery. This show combines Cockell’s quilts and textile collages and Lambert’s painted collagraphs, both of which are saturated with rich color. Tarja Cockell uses dyeing, painting, and other mixed media to create intricate, textured surfaces in her textiles. She often adds stitching to e nhance organic shapes and textures for her pieces. “I want to cherish the playfulness of color,” Cockell says. “In this work, I explore
abstract colorations and dreamscapes with a hint of reality and a lot of space for imagination.” A native of Finland, Cockell received a degree in Textile and Design, majoring in weaving. Her studio is at Western Avenue Studios in Lowell. She is a juried member of NH
Craftsmen’s League and lives in North Andover. Brooke Lambert makes original collagraphs inspired by the ocean and the light within it
— the light coming out of the cracks and crevices on the ocean floor, within the waves and life beneath its surface. “Even on the darkest days, the ocean has light,” she says, “and this light, for me, represents hope.” Lambert grew up in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and currently lives in Lowell, MA. She received her BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Her art is shown widely throughout New England.
