As a self taught embroidery artist and former educator, I wanted to find a space to show my art without losing half the profits to the landlord. My options for a debut gallery in my hometown of Baltimore were further limited during the Covid pandemic, and eventually I decided to host an event in my own home. I found 5 great artists, some of whom had never been in a formal market before, and coached them on marketing and audience engagement. They kept all their profits from the Maryland Makers Market, and so did I – $500.
I’m repeating the process in my new town of Medford, with 4 amazing self-taught artists. For this event, I am charging $8 per person or $4 for groups of 5 or more – each guest gets a chance to win a print of my massive Boston tapestry – a project ongoing for almost a year! Your purchase supports a fair marketplace for creators and entrepreneurs, who then have a better chance of growing their business, living well, and hiring more people.
