“Boston in 100 Words” invites everyone living, working, or going to school in Boston and some surrounding towns to write stories of 100 words or fewer that depict everyday life in their communities. Submission are open through July 14, 2021. Stories should be submitted on our website: www.bostonin100words.com. Winners will be announced in October, 2021. A team of local, renowned writers select winning stories, which are made available to the public for free in the form of large, illustrated posters installed throughout the city. “Boston in 100 Words” believes everyone has creative talent and that by sharing our talents and stories with each other in the public sphere we empower individuals and strengthen our community. Our project seeks to find the creative talents of individuals who might not normally consider themselves “artists” and to consecrate them as such through the public distribution and celebration of their original work.
“Boston in 100 Words” is modeled on a highly successful project, “Santiago en 100 Palabras,” that has run annually in Santiago, Chile, since 2001. The project has expanded to six cities outside of Chile. Boston is the first city in an English-speaking country to host the contest. Project partners include Fundación Plagio (Chile), the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture at the City of Boston, the Boston Public Library, the Boston Cultural Council, and WERS 88.9FM Radio.
