Boston Comics in Color Festival

Boston Comics in Color Festival (BCICF) is New England’s first comic arts festival focusing on stories by and about people of color. This three-day event — Friday, April 22 – Saturday, April 24, 2021 — is a convening of artists from Boston and beyond, who represent a broad spectrum of disciplines and backgrounds, and share creative work and thinking about the world of comics and comics-related culture.

The BCICF will take place both online and on the campus of Roxbury Community College (RCC), and will be the first of its kind in the city of Boston. It will include event headliners, special guest speakers, panel discussions with working artist and writers, workshops on comic art and writing, as well as an outdoor in-person* market place and artist alley for comic creators can share and sell their books, materials, artwork.

BCICF 2021 features artists ranging from award-winning comic creators already established on the national stage — most notably Keith Knight, considered the world’s foremost gentleman cartoonist — to up-and-coming talents emerging in the local and regional arena. Knight’s life and cartoons are the inspiration for the TV series “Woke,” currently streaming on Hulu.  

Tak Toyoshima, creator/Illustrator of the “Secret Asian Man” comic strip; a Women Make Comics panel; and other featured artists, including BCICF co-founders, Barrington Edwards and Cagen Luse, are among additional highlights.
