Youth Learn To Draw For Life I

Local Wayland artist and drawing teacher Mei-Ling Ellerman will be teaching her drawing course, Learning to Draw For Life, for children through Arts Wayland. She has adapted her adult course for children, because she believes that if children this age are interested in drawing, they will really benefit from professional instruction. This course will help build their knowledge, techniques, skills, and confidence.

She keeps her classes small so each student can receive the individualized feedback that will help improve both their ability to observe and draw more accurately. These skills of observation and drawing will help them in many other disciplines and areas of art and life. Students will draw subjects ranging from animals, to fruit, and still life, using graphite pencils, colored pencils, and conte crayons. They will learn about contour drawing, negative space, proportions, perspective, and shading techniques. The age range for this class is from 8 years old through 12 years old.

This class will be held on 8 Fridays in the Youth Room of the First Parish of Wayland from 4 pm to 5:30 pm beginning May 5th, 2023.
