A New Day

The Metropolitan Wind Symphony will begin their 51st season with their in-person Fall Band Concert on Sunday, October 24, 2021 at 3:00 pm, at the Scottish Rite Masonic Museum, 33 Marrett Road, Lexington, MA. MetWinds guest conductor Eric Melley will conduct the program.  Featured are Grand Canyon Fanfare by James Howard, arranged by Paul Murtha, Illyrian Dances by Guy Woolfenden, Allerseelen by Richard Strauss, arranged by Albert O. Davis, Instinctive Travels by Michael Markowski, Moorside March by Gustav Holst, arranged by Gordon Jacob, One Life Beautiful by Julie Giroux, The Lighthouse by Joanne Harris, Of Our New Day Begun by Omar Thomas, and Manhattan Beach March by John Philip Sousa. A pre-concert lecture by Eric Melley has been pre-recorded and will be shared via link and QR code for all concert guests. Click here to view the pre-concert lecture. 

Eric Melley is currently the Director of Instrumental Activities at Providence College, Rhode Island where he directs the Symphonic Winds, Jazz Ensemble, and oversees all aspects of the instrumental and instrumental music education areas.

All individuals ages 12 and older attending the concert must be vaccinated and must also wear a mask while inside the venue. Please bring your vaccination card (or a photocopy), a photo ID, and a mask to the concert. Credentials will be checked at the museum entrance. Children under the age of 12 who are not eligible for the vaccine may attend the performance as long as they are wearing a mask. Please social distance from other groups once you are inside the hall. There will be no intermission. After the performance, please exit the building. If you are a friend of a performer, please plan to meet them outside of the building so there is no congregating in the lobby.

Founded by Jerry Gardner in 1971, the Metropolitan Wind Symphony, a concert band, is currently celebrating its 51st anniversary. The MetWinds comprises over 70 talented woodwind, brass, and percussion instrumentalists who audition for membership and seating. It makes a significant contribution to the cultural life of the Greater Boston community by providing its audiences with high quality concerts and its members with opportunities for musical growth.
