A Call To Our Ancestors

The Brookline Arts Center (BAC) is excited to announce the upcoming exhibition at the Beacon Street Gallery: “A Call To Our Ancestors”. This exhibition features photographic work from local artist Michelle Falcón Fontánez. “A Call To Our Ancestors” will be on view from May 10  to July 9, with a free open reception on Thursday, May 11 from 5-7pm. The opening will feature a live performance by Bomba de Aquí with food provided by Mana Escondido Cafe. There will also be prints for sale. We encourage all who are interested to attend!

Michelle Falcón Fontánez (she/her) is an award winning storyteller working in photography, film, and public art from Holyoke, MA . Michelle has witnessed and personally experienced injustices that have shaped her views of the world, motivating her pursuit of making change through art . Her artistry has primarily focused on social issues, where she has created work to illuminate voices that have not been heard. Her body of work, A Call To Our Ancestors, is a multimedia series dedicated to honoring the ancestors that came before us. The project portrays various generations of Puerto Rican women, each symbolizing a different element of the culture as well as their roles in society. The series is composed of large photographic murals and exhibitions, touring within the Puerto Rican diaspora in Massachusetts.
