"I'll Swallow Your Soul"

Presented by Semiosis Quartet at United Parish in Brookline

This concert features Semiosis Quartet members in various iterations from solo to full quartet. Caroline Shaw's Entr'acte will feature all quartet members as they twist and turn around the Pulitzer Prize winning composer's work. Grammy nominated composer Carlos Simon is represented by Loop, a trio featuring violinist Nicole Parks, violist Lauren Nelson, and cellist Nicholas Johnson. This work was commissioned by the New York Philharmonic during the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. Darian Thomas' solo violin work, Fluid, will be performed by violinist Madeline Hocking. Nicole and Nicholas perform Jessie Montgomery's Duo for Violin and Cello which explores a diverse range of characters across three movements. Nicole and Madeline explore the virtuosity of violin writing in Boston based composer Aaron Jay Myers' Star Trek inspired For the World is Hollow, and I Have Touched the Sky, and are joined by the rest of the group in the centerpiece of the program, Myers' I'll Swallow Your Soul, written in 2017 for Semiosis Quartet. While not directly programmatic, Myers' work explores a vast array of techniques and styles in a work that will leave you wanting more.
