The Wound in the Water, by young Norwegian composer Kim André Arnesen, is a piece for chorus and solo soprano, portraying a world divided by pain but ultimately redeemed by love and shared purpose.
The Wound in the Water, by acclaimed young Norwegian composer Kim André Arnesen, received its premiere in Norway less than two years ago (July 2016) yet is already being hailed as a masterpiece. Commonwealth Chorale is delighted to be one of the first choruses to bring this lyrical tour de force to an American audience.
The text, by UK-based poet and librettist Euan Tait, evokes a world in pain in which we are divided by greed from one another and exiled from our own capacity for love. With stirring orchestration for strings and piano and luscious vocals, Arnesen’s ultimately uplifting work concludes with hope for healing and a shared song.
