Houghton Chapel at Wellesley College

Houghton Chapel at Wellesley College

Services from many religions are held at Houghton Memorial Chapel, which was designed by Heins and LaFarge and completed in 1899. Currently the Religious Life team at Wellesley includes a Buddhist advisor, a Jewish chaplain, a Muslim advisor, a Roman Catholic chaplain, a Protestant chaplain, and a Unitarian Universalist chaplain, as well as advisors and student groups from the Baha'i, Hindu, Jain, Native African, Native American, Sikh, and Zoroastrian communities. Wellesley celebrates its diversity and fosters a sense of community through a multi-faith team approach to religion. The College's Religious and Spiritual Life program has become a national model, followed by over 300 colleges nationwide.

Houghton Chapel is also home for many of Wellesley's musical performances, including those by the Triple Helix Piano Trio, Wellesley-Brandeis Orchestra, and the Wellesley College Choir, which often hosts concerts with other colleges and universities. Wellesley's traditions of stepsinging and Flower Sunday also take place here.
