About The Onset Beach Jazz Festival Mikelyn Roderick, singer and songwriter had a longtime dream to create a jazz festival in the town that filled her childhood with music and stories that centered around jazz. Well, in July 2010, that dream was realized as Onset residents and jazz lovers from near and far came together to bask in the sun and enjoy the birth of the 1st Annual Onset Beach Jazz Festival. The event was filled with delicious food, local vendors and amazing talent with the backdrop of a magnificent beach on Cape Cod. During the 40’s, Onset Village had an illustrious jazz history and was a booming area for music. It was nothing to hear Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Illinois Jaquet, just to name a few, perform right here at such well known establishments like the Rocky Manor, which was owned by Mikelyn’s uncle, the late Richard Cruz of Boston, The Blue Flame, The Golden Clef, and the famed Colonial Casino. Onset Beach Jazz Festival is a non-profit festival with a mission to keep music alive in our schools and communities by donating musical instruments to underfunded music programs, giving students the much needed benefits of music education, helping to inspire creativity and full self-expression through music.
