NEW CHORUS FOUNDED ON ARTISTIC EXCELLENCE AND COMMUNITY STRENGTH The newly formed Three Rivers Chorus serves the communities united by the watershed of the Sudbury, Assabet, and Concord Rivers. Its mission is to educate, inspire, and celebrate diverse singers and audiences through choral performances of artistic excellence, spiritual imagination, and cultural courage. The wide-ranging repertoire is rooted in the classical choral tradition, and connects with contemporary life. “The chorus will expand access to high quality, participatory music for our families; strengthen our towns, and champion the natural environment of our region,” says chorus Artistic Director, and Maynard resident, Ellen Oak. The non-profit organization is being built in stages, beginning with an auditioned chorus for men and women with choral experience. A training choir for those age 8 and up who are new to choral singing, will start up next fall. An ensemble of professional singers will debut in the spring of 2012. Rehearsals for the SATB mixed chorus begin Monday, January 24, 7-10p.m., at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 52 Nason Street, Maynard. The first three rehearsals are open to all, and include time for auditions. Special memberships will be offered to those who, rather than sing, do essential behind-the-scenes work to help the chorus thrive. Debut concerts will be presented April 9-10 in Stow and Concord, and will include works by Ralph Vaughan Williams, William Billings, and Samuel Barber.
