In 1923, a small group of music lovers gathered at the home of Cora Gooch Brooks, a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music, intent on forming a society to "train men and women in the art of choral singing; to provide an opportunity for the enjoyment, participation and appreciation of good music, and to present concerts for the public benefit." The meeting was a success and the Braintree Choral Society was born. Braintree Choral Society thrived with the leadership of Ms. Brooks, who served as our Music Director for an amazing 35 years until her death in 1966. With her guidance, and that of the talented Directors who have followed her, the Society has performed many well-known works including The Pilgrim’s Chorus, Carmina Burana, The Creation, The Messiah, Brahms’s A German Requiem, op. 54 and Mendelssohn’s St. Paul. Over eighty years later, Braintree Choral Society proudly and successfully continues our mission. The group, ranging from 40-60 members from the South Shore and Boston areas, continues to meet weekly during the concert season (September through May) to enjoy and participate in fine music making. And, twice annually, prepares concerts which are presented to the public. We anxiously await our new season which promises lots of great music and lots of fun! We welcome you to sing with us and attend our concerts!
