The Downtown Boston Business Improvement District (BID) is only one of two BIDs in Boston and one of only eight in Massachusetts. A binding assessment levied on commercial property owners funds BID activities, and a 30-member board of directors elected by BID members oversees the organization. The board represents the cross-section of Boston’s business community found in the district and is responsive to property owners, retailers and residents. It directs management, programming and budget decisions, which are implemented by a full-time staff that manages daily operations. Property owners of towers and commercial condominiums, industry leaders and independent businesses, non-profit organizations and residents, all volunteer their time as Board members in staggered three-year terms.

The BID is a private, non-profit corporation created and maintained by property owners. We serve the entire downtown community — businesses, employees, residents, students, and more. Our mission is to transform and engage Downtown Boston through programs and supplemental services that meet area needs.
