The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (RSCDS) is a worldwide organization of 21.000 members that is administered from its headquarters in Edinburgh, Scotland. The Boston Branch of the RSCDS was started in 1950 and was the first branch to be established outside of the U.K. The purpose of the Society and of the Boston Branch is to preserve and further the tradition of Scottish Country Dancing and music. It does this by offering dance instruction, by sponsoring parties and other events, including an annual concert, and by providing opportunities for musicians to play for the dancing. The Branch sponsors 12 classes in the New England area, including the class at Springstep (formerly known as the Cambridge Class). and classes at Brookline, Stow, Weston, Salem, and Nashua. Scottish dancing is fun, a good workout. and a great way to meet people and learn more about the traditions of Scotland. You don’t need to be a Scot to enjoy the dancing and the music! The activities are open to all, and beginners are very welcome.
