Fruitlands is a National Historic Landmark, the farmhouse is the site of Bronson Alcott's transcendentalist commune called Fruitlands which was founded in 1843. There is also a Shaker Museum, based in part on the nearby Harvard and Shirley Shaker communities. The Native American Museum contains ethnographic materials from across North America. And the Fine Art Gallery contains changing exhibits as well as the collection of Hudson River Landscapes and 19th century vernacular portraits.
