Mudflat is a 34 year old nonprofit arts organization in East Somerville, providing a wide variety of clay classes and workshops for over 1000 adults, children and teens annually. Weekly classes are offered during 3 semesters in all levels of wheelthrowing, handbuilding, sculpture, tiles and technical topics. Two summer sessions of clay classes for kids are offered in July and August. Workshops feature nationally known visiting artists, specific ceramic techniques, and introductory sessions in handbuilding or working on the potter’s wheel for adults as well as parents with children. Mudflat also provides studios for 20 ceramic artists. Mudflat Gallery, in Porter Square, Cambridge, is our retail space, showcasing the clay work of 47 Mudflat artists. Mudflat also offers special programs and outreach to encourage the creative development of ceramic arts in the Boston area to school and afterschool programs, youth groups, and elder centers.
