Amy Sims, violin and Velléda Miragias, cello

Presented by Salem State University Center for the Arts at Salem State University

This is the last of a three part concert series presented this spring in conjunction with Salem State Explorers Lifelong Learning Institute and the Jewish Community Center of the North Shore.

Amy Sims, violin and Velléda Miragiascello perform works by Mozart, Gliere and Ravel in Salem State's intimate Recital Hall.

Los Angeles native Amy Sims is a busy freelance Classical and Baroque violinist living in Boston, collaborating with musicians from the region in a wide range of musical genres, from intimate Baroque chamber ensembles and string quartets to large ensembles such as Boston Philharmonic and Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra. She performs and records with Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), Odyssey Opera, and Boston Baroque and is a contracted member of the symphonies of Springfield (Massachusetts) and Portland (Maine). In addition to her various affiliations in New England, Amy is a recent recruit of the Atlantic Classical Orchestra of West Palm Beach (Florida), where she commutes to perform as assistant concertmaster. Each August Amy returns to the Peninsula Music Festival Orchestra in Door County, Wisconsin, as its assistant concertmaster.

Boston-based Parisian cellist Velléda Miragias has received critical acclaim from le Confolentais for her "impeccable technical mastery, [and] strong expression," and currently enjoys a diverse career as a freelance solo, chamber, and orchestral musician, educator, and entrepreneur across the United States, Europe, and Asia.

Admission to this concert is free. Advance reservations are recommended as seating is limited.

Peter Sheckman will lead a pre-concert talk beginning at 2:15 pm.
