A Spring Concert of Songs and Poetry Celebrating Nature

A Spring Concert of Songs and Poetry Celebrating Nature

Presented by Cantilena - a women's chorale at First Parish Unitarian Universalist Arlington

Cantilena invites the community to explore the natural world and the role it plays in our lives as reflected in poetry and song. This unique program pairs the two art forms by interweaving a selection of readings with choral settings of poems. The guest artist, Arlington’s Poet Laureate Jean Flanagan, has chosen the works of several local poets to complement Artistic Director Elinor A. Armsby’s musical selection. The program includes songs by Gwyneth Walker, Roger Bourland, Susan LaBarr, and Randall Thompson; set to poems such as ‘Bird’ by Francisco X. Alarcón; ‘This is the Garden’ by  e. e. cummings; ‘Cocoons’ by Emily Dickinson; ‘A Girl's Garden’ by Robert Frost; ‘In Autumn’ by May Swenson; and ‘Dew’ by Sara Teasdale.

Meet Jean Flanagan and other local poets at a reception that follows the concert.

The concert program with further details will be posted on the chorus website in advance at https://www.cantilena.org/concerts.

This performance is partially supported by grants provided by The Arlington Commission for Arts & Culture, a local agency, and the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
