Come with Cantilena as we explore music and poetry about the natural world around us by interweaving a selection of readings with choral settings of poems in this unique “I Will Be Earth: The Poetry of Nature” program.
Cantilena invites the community to explore the natural world and the role it plays in our lives as reflected in poetry and song. This unique program pairs the two art forms by interweaving a selection of readings with choral settings of poems. The guest artist, Arlington’s Poet Laureate Jean Flanagan, has chosen the works of several local poets to complement Artistic Director Elinor A. Armsby’s musical selection. The program includes songs by Gwyneth Walker, Roger Bourland, Susan LaBarr, and Randall Thompson; set to poems such as ‘Bird’ by Francisco X. Alarcón; ‘This is the Garden’ by e. e. cummings; ‘Cocoons’ by Emily Dickinson; ‘A Girl's Garden’ by Robert Frost; ‘In Autumn’ by May Swenson; and ‘Dew’ by Sara Teasdale.
Meet Jean Flanagan and other local poets at a reception that follows the concert.
