Singer/songwriter/guitarist/producer/arranger JANIE BARNETT recently released Under My Skin, Reimagining Cole Porter . . . on her own label, Minor Regrets Music. It's an astounding project that incorporates some 32 of today's finest most esteemed musicians from a wildly diverse musical palette. And then Janie presents them in an unusually brilliant and intimate setting as she performs the historic music of Cole Porter.

The album is remarkable not only in its unique sound and interpretation of Porter's songs, but also in that it features jazz icons Bill Frisell, Catherine Russell, John Patitucci and Randy Brecker-- intermingled with folk and folk/rock stars such as Cliff Eberhardt, James Maddock, Jerry Douglas and Patty Larkin. The album also boasts notable backup players from the worlds of pop, rock, and bluegrass. One is the powerful guitarist Duke Levine who's well known for his powerful work with Peter Wolf, Bonnie Raitt and Rosanne Cash.

The opening track, "I've Got You Under My Skin" features Barnett in an intimate and deeply sorrowful setting with her whispering vocals accompanied by the highly skilled guitar and mandola string player Levine alongside the exquisite Jerry Douglas on dobro. It's a unique tribute to a well known song that defies the ordinary.

In addition, Barnett shares the stage with notable vocalists such as James Maddock, Darryl Tookes, Catherine Russell, Cliff Eberhardt, Keith Sewell and Nicki Richards in heart-felt duets that continue to break the mold.

This album is surely one of the highlights of the pandemic lockdowns. With tours stopped cold and artists isolated and alone, some truly incredible musical fusions were able to transpire. This is surely one stunning and creative work from an extreme time.
