South African jazz pianist Witness Matlou brings his trio to the Dot Jazz Series.
Mandorla Music is very excited to welcome the Witness Matlou Trio to Peabody Hall on 2/15!
Witness Matlou is a pianist, composer, arranger, performer, and educator. He is a professor of Harmony and Piano at Berklee College of Music, where he also earned his bachelor's degree and his master's degree, studying under the direction of Danilo Pérez, Terri Lyne Carrington, Joe Lovano, John Patitucci, Yoron Israel and George Garzone. As a composer and arranger, Matlou brings jazz piano into conversation with traditional music of his native South Africa, folk, gospel, soul, and classical music. He has performed at the Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, the Monterey Jazz Festival, the DC Jazz Festival, the Twin Cities Jazz Festival, and the North Sea Jazz Festival (Netherlands).
The Witness Matlou Trio also features two of the most in-demand rhythm players in Boston: John Lockwood (South Africa) on bass and Lee Fish (USA) on drums.
Peabody Hall is a wheelchair accessible space in the Parish of All Saints, around the corner from Ashmont/Peabody Square Station on the Red Line. There’s free parking at the church.
This concert is part of the Dot Jazz Series, our collaboration with Greater Ashmont Main Street.
$15 in advance, $20 at the door. As always, college students with ID get in for $10 at the door, and concerts are free for under-18.
