We will begin with an overview of shadow puppetry styles, ranging from historical to contemporary approaches, to grasp the basic principles of shadow theater. Participants will have the opportunity to make their own simple paper-and-rod puppet, which we will use to explore incorporating shadow into narrative contexts. You are also welcome to bring a shadow puppet you have already made!
