French dance company Hervé Koubi returns its stunning classic to Holy Cross, allowing audiences to experience its gravity-defying style in the thrilling proximity of our black box theater.
Following an early presentation at Holy Cross in 2016, “What the Day Owes to the Night” has become the French dance company Hervé Koubi’s signature work. This season, Hervé Koubi brings its stunning classic to our black box Boroughs Theatre, allowing audiences to experience its gravity-defying style from thrilling proximity. “What the Day Owes to the Night” blends elements of capoeira, martial arts, urban, and contemporary dance together with powerful Sufi imagery as dancers from Algeria, Morocco, Bulgaria, Italy, and France perform to an eclectic range of stirring music. Through hypnotic movement, choreographer Hervé Koubi retraces the discovery of his Algerian heritage through the story of a young boy from the acclaimed Algerian novel of the same name by Yasmina Khadra.
