Old Schwamb Mill presents its Open House

Presented by Old Schwamb Mill at Old Schwamb Mill

The Old Schwamb Mill will hold an Open House on Saturday, June 3, 2023 from 10 am to 4 pm. This family-friendly event has something for all ages. During the day, visitors may enjoy the Opening Reception of “The Power of Water” exhibit, which will include a working water wheel in addition to panels describing how the Old Schwamb Mill harnessed water power in the late 1800s to run its machinery, including the lathes that continue to shape the picture frames manufactured here.

In addition, there will be ongoing tours of the Mill, gallery viewing for the art exhibit “Ways of Seeing: Painting, Photography, and Printmaking,” featuring the work of painter Richard McElroy, photographer Janet Smith, and printmaker Cathy Garnett. At 10 am, families are invited to attend the puppet show, "Taking Turns," with Margaret Moody. Admission is $15/family, payable on the day of the event.

From 11 am to 12:30 pm, woodworker David Graf will offer frame making demonstration, using the lathes that have been in use since the Schwambs established the Mill in the late 1800s.

And at 2 pm, Board Member Bob Tanner will present a talk on "Water Power: How Hydro Turned the Mill," as part of the Power of Water exhibit.

Admission to the Open House is free, with a $5.00 suggested donation. The Old Schwamb Mill is located at 17 Mill Lane in Arlington. For more information, visit www.oldschwambmill.org or call 781-643-0554.
