Le corps s’en va, le coeur demeure: The Leuven Chansonnier
Only a tiny number of 15th-century songbooks are known to survive, making it quite a sensation when a new collection—the Leuven Chansonnier—was discovered in an estate sale in 2015. Containing 50 songs, among which a dozen were unknown to modern scholars, the 1470 book has a particular emphasis on songs written from a woman’s perspective, suggesting it may have originally had a female owner, perhaps a singer herself. Founded by Anna Danilevskaia in 2014, Sollazzo Ensemble brings together exceptional musicians with a keen interest in late Medieval and early Renaissance music. Join these engaging artists for an intimate showcase of some of their favorite selections from the Leuven Chansonnier.
