In Live:Work, Lowell’s Western Avenue Loft Artists will take their work on the road to Fivesparks in Harvard, MA from May 16 – July 8, 2023. The public is invited to meet the artists during a reception on Sunday, June 4 from 3–6 pm. Live:Work will include an array of realistic, surrealistic, and abstract paintings by Angela Ales, Denise Driscoll, Wendy James, John Haiduk, George Middleton, and Amy R. Roberts.  Ceramic sculpture by John Brickels, photography by Mark Elson, collage by Maxine Farkas, mixed media sculpture by Barbara Fletcher, and silk paintings by Johanna Tiemann will also be featured.

This body of work represents the diversity and brilliance of the artists who live at Western Avenue.  The title, Live:Work, underscores the artists’ choice to maintain their studios and homes within a unique artistic community where inspiration, interaction, and collaboration support creative production as well as daily life. The public is invited to visit during Western Avenue Open Studios held the first Saturday of every month.

Western Avenue | Studios & Lofts is an industrial textile mill complex that has been preserved and transformed into the creative soul of Lowell.  The complex consists of 250 work-only studios and 50 live/work lofts. In 2022 Western Avenue became a non-profit under the Arts & Business Council of Greater Boston with the mission to keep the property permanently as affordable artist space. The campus, which includes Lowell Makes, provides space and inspiration to approximately 600 artists, makers, and creatives, thus making Western Avenue the largest creative community in the country.
