Boston University's Film and Television Department’s Cinemathèque is a series of meetings and conversations with filmmakers/televison-makers and free screenings of important, innovative films and television programs. Cinematheque is the department’s premiere screening series.
This week's subject is Martin Persiel. Persiel, a Germany-based filmmaker, comes to BU to show his documentary, This Ain’t California, a story unknown in America of skateboard culture in former East Germany under Communism. Today’s survivors talk about the days when skateboarding was considered an attack on the government, and those who dared skate in public were under the eye of Stasi, the scary German secret police, sometimes with tragic results. Co-sponsored with the BU Arts Initiative, Office of the Provost.
