Creative Economy Workshop: Protecting Our Creative Self and Our Practice

Creative Economy Workshop: Protecting Our Creative Self and Our Practice

Presented by Massachusetts College of Art and Design and Mayor's Office of Arts and Culture at Online/Virtual Space

Amidst the pandemic, inflation, recession and on-going systemic racism, artists and creatives with mission-driven practices are severely impacted. Many of us have lost gigs and opportunities that were going to sustain us for the foreseeable time while dealing with perhaps stress, anxiety, and loss, etc.. Come join this interactive session for artists, culture bearers and tenders on how to rest, stay resilient, work, collaborate, and protect our practices during such turbulent times. Let’s strategize, share tangible best practices on adaptation, and learn resources on what to do next to maintain forward momentum for ourselves and as a community.

About the Instructor

Ngoc-Tran Vu (she/her) is a 1.5-generation Vietnamese multimedia artist and organizer whose socially engaged practice draws from her experience as a cultural strategist, educator, and lightworker. Her work evokes discourse of familial ties, memories and rituals amongst themes of social justice and intersectionality. She received her MA in Arts and Politics at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and her BA in Ethnic Studies and Visual Arts at Brown University. Previously, Tran worked at Silkroad to support performing musicians through social impact and AIR (Association of Independents in Radio) to advocate for freelance audio producers in mission-driven storytelling. Most recently, she taught in Asian American Studies at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Tran works across borders and is based in Boston's Dorchester community. @TranVuArts
